Weekend Wellness

Living well is not complicated.

Actually living unwell is much more so.

Poor health is a product of chaos, dysfunction, busyness, overwhelm. Chronic stress can lead to the development of chronic disease and reduced longevity.

Climbing that corporate ladder or keeping ahead of the Joneses can cost you….late nights, fast food, too little sleep, stress.

When feeling overwhelmed, start with 3 deep breaths. This simple action stimulates your vagus nerve which activates your parasympathetic nervous system switching your body from fight or flight to rest & relax mode. So simple….just breathe….you do it all the time….the only difference is this time you pay attention to those breaths. This also calms the mind, orders your thoughts, allows you to focus in the present moment. Fit these moments in throughout the day to help you hone in on the task at hand. Perhaps combine it with a movement snack. Practice this before you eat too….turn off the distractions…focus on aroma, texture, taste, your body’s response to the food. Then at bedtime, again 3 deep belly breaths before you close your eyes. Give your body permission to rest, to replenish, to reset. It’s also a beautiful way to start your day in the morning. Breathing….so simple, no special skill required, no expense, no pharma…our breath nourishes our bodies, our minds….empowering us to live simply so we can simply live.
